Low Tree Vigor, Free Palmette Training Form, and High Planting Density Increase Olive and Oil Yield Efficiency in Dry, Sloping Areas of Mediterranean Regions

Exploiting biodiversity must be considered today an effective strategy to improve the sustainability of olive production systems. The evaluation local cultivars, based on their vegetative and fruiting traits, along with analysis product quality, may contribute significantly development diffusion new olive-growing aim this study was evaluate growth, productivity, oil quality three Sicilian cultivars different vigor/growth habit grown in four combinations training form planting density. ‘Abunara’, ‘Calatina’, ‘Nocellara del Belice’ trees were planted intensive systems: 2 × 5 m trained central leader (CLx2), 3 free palmette (FPx3), 4 small globe vase (GVx4), poly-conic (PVx5) evaluated for seven years.
